Why eight weeks, and when they start

Today is 19 September 2026. If the Class 10 boards begin in mid-February, as they typically do, eight weeks back from the first paper lands in the second half of December. Many schools hold their preliminary or pre-board exams around the same time, so the sprint and the school calendar will overlap. Treat the school prelims as your first free full-length mock: they count as week 1 or week 2 diagnostic data if you mark them honestly.

That leaves three months from now until the sprint opens. They are not empty. Use them for three things: finish every chapter in school and in your own notes, do one topic-wise test a week in whichever subject feels weakest, and build the formula, equation and diagram sheets you will use in the final weeks. If you have to choose between doing these and starting the sprint early, do these. A sprint on top of unfinished chapters just recycles the same gaps.

What you are actually revising for

Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology are each 100 marks: an 80-mark theory paper and a 20-mark internal assessment made up of practical work, projects and assignments. Physics, Chemistry and Biology are Papers 1, 2 and 3 of Science (Group II), and each has its own 2-hour theory paper, so a good week in one does not cover for a weak week in another. In Mathematics, Section A (40 marks) is compulsory and Section B (40 marks) offers internal choice, as per the recent paper format. Weeks 1-2: diagnostic and triage

Start each subject with a full paper under exam conditions: same duration, no notes, and if you can, a printed paper that looks like the real one. Then mark it with a strict scheme, or ask a teacher to. Do not mark generously. A 'nearly right' answer is a lost mark, and the point is to find them now.

Sort every chapter into three buckets. Secure means you scored full or almost full marks and could explain it. Shaky means you lost marks for reasons you understand, such as missing units or a skipped step. Untouched means you lost marks because you did not know it. Week 2 goes almost entirely to the shaky and untouched buckets, and the fixing should be by writing, not reading. Keep a one-page error log per subject: what you lost, why, and what the fix is. You will use it again in week 8.

Weeks 3-5: drilling the chapters that carry marks

Now the plan gets specific. Each day, aim for roughly this shape:

  • Block 1 (about 90 minutes): the heavy subject of the day. Maths gets this slot most days. Numerical practice belongs here when your head is freshest.
  • Block 2 (about 60 to 75 minutes): one science paper. Rotate Physics, Chemistry and Biology so each gets a full block at least twice a week.
  • Block 3 (about 30 to 40 minutes): the writing drill. Draw diagrams, write equations, re-derive one derivation, or redo yesterday's mistakes without looking.
  • Sunday: one topic test plus its correction. Pick the subject with the most red chapters that week.

Two rules keep this from turning into rereading. First, every session ends with something written, not something highlighted. Second, every wrong answer goes into the error log with the reason. If your log says 'unit missing' eleven times in Physics, that is not a knowledge problem, and no amount of chapter revision fixes it. Weeks 6-8: board-pattern papers and strategy

From week 6 the job changes from fixing chapters to fixing performance. Sit full papers at the time of day the real paper will be held. Practise the order in which you attempt sections and the time you allow each. In the sciences that means the compulsory section first, then the choice section with a decision made in the first two minutes about which questions you will answer. In Maths it means deciding your Section B picks before you write a single line of them.

After every paper, spend at least as long correcting it as you spent writing it. The correction session is where marks are actually gained. By week 8 you should be doing no new topics at all. The last week is the error log, the formula, equation and diagram sheets, and one lighter paper for timing.

Where the 20-mark internal assessment fits

The internal assessment is 20 marks per subject, out of 100, and it is assessed by the school through practical work, projects and assignments. Practicals are typically conducted around January to February, which is right where the sprint starts, so plan for it deliberately. Ask your school now for its schedule and what each subject requires: the Science practical file, the Maths project or assignment, and any viva or lab test. Write these dates into the same calendar as your revision plan.

  • Finish all practical files and project write-ups by early December, well before the sprint begins.
  • Treat lab days as a half-revision session. Revise the underlying concept the evening before, since the viva questions often connect to the theory.
  • Do not sacrifice the 20 marks to chase theory: 20 out of 100 is a fifth of every subject, and it is the most controllable part of the total.
  • If your school schedules practicals during weeks 6-8, drop the lightest block that week instead of skipping the paper.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Starting with mocks and skipping triage. Without a bucket list, you spend equal time on chapters you have already mastered.
  • Reading instead of writing. Highlighting a solved example feels productive and changes nothing on exam day.
  • Treating Science as one subject. Physics, Chemistry and Biology are separate papers. A weak Biology diagram habit is not fixed by extra Chemistry.
  • Leaving practicals and projects for the last minute. They are 20 marks per subject, and a rushed file costs marks you could have banked.
  • Adding new chapters in week 8. The last week is for consolidation. New material at that point mostly adds anxiety.
  • Marking your own paper generously. If you are not sure a step would earn the mark, assume it would not.
