What PRMO was
The Pre-Regional Mathematical Olympiad (PRMO) was the entry-level exam in India's official maths Olympiad pipeline from 2016 to 2019, conducted by the Mathematics Teachers' Association (India). It served the same basic role IOQM now serves — the first qualifying step toward INMO.
What actually changed with IOQM
IOQM replaced PRMO in 2020. The core content areas — algebra, number theory, geometry, combinatorics — remained largely the same, since these represent the fundamental building blocks of competition maths regardless of the exam's name. What changed was primarily structural: the specific format details and the regional cutoff and eligibility structure were revised to address access and consistency issues in how PRMO was being administered across different regions of India.
