Where Boards 2027 Stand Right Now
Today is 19 September 2026, so the board exam is roughly five months away. CBSE has not published the 2027 date sheet; it is expected around November-December 2026, and any date you see forwarded on WhatsApp before then is a guess. What we do know is the structure. Class 12 has a single annual board exam, expected in February-March 2027, with no second exam for Class 12 in 2027. For science students the marks are split as Physics, Chemistry and Biology at 70 theory plus 30 practical each, and Mathematics at 80 theory plus 20 internal assessment. The pass mark is 33 percent per subject, with theory and practical or internal marks counted together as the board specifies.
On question style, the pattern reported for 2026-27 (the same as since 2024-25) is about 50 percent competency-based questions, 20 percent MCQs and 30 percent short and long answer. Check that against the current sample paper for each subject before you build your practice sets around it. The practical consequence is simple: a student who has only memorised chapter-end answers will meet a paper that keeps asking, in one way or another, whether they can apply an idea to a situation they have not seen before.
Who an 8-Week Crash Plan Is For (and Who It Is Not)
A crash plan works when most of the syllabus has been taught and the student's problem is exam readiness: uneven chapters, slow numericals, shaky presentation, no timed practice. It does not work when a whole unit is still unread. If you are in September with three chapters of Physics and a full unit of Biology untouched, the next few weeks belong to finishing the syllabus, not to a sprint. Use the sprint once the syllabus is done, and use the time before it to build a clean set of notes and a formula and reaction sheet you will actually use later.

Chapter names in the table are directional, not a syllabus. Confirm which chapters are in scope from the current CBSE syllabus, and confirm how many marks each unit carries from the current sample paper. Do not lean on an old blog post's weightage numbers, including ours.
Weeks 1-2: Diagnostic and Triage
The first mock is not meant to be encouraging. Take a full paper in each subject under exam conditions, as unprepared as you honestly are, and do not look anything up. Then mark it strictly against a marking scheme, and sort every chapter into one of three buckets.
- Secure: you scored well and could explain it to a friend. These get one revision pass and then only appear inside mocks.
- Patchable: you understood the idea but lost marks to a slip, a missing unit, a half-remembered formula, an incomplete diagram. These are the best investment of the plan, because small fixes convert quickly into marks.
- Weak: you could not start, or the answer was wrong for a conceptual reason. Look at these honestly. A few can be repaired in three or four focused sessions; a few will need to be traded off against everything else on the list.
That last decision, which weak chapters to fight for and which to leave, is the real meaning of triage. It is uncomfortable, and it is the reason a small batch with a teacher who reads your answers matters more than a big video library. Use these two weeks to also write down every derivation, reaction and diagram you are expected to reproduce, then tick them off as they become reliable.

Weeks 3-5: Drill What Returns the Most Marks
This is where the plan becomes narrow on purpose. Take the patchable and high-return chapters from your triage sheet and work them in blocks: concept recall in the first half hour, then a timed set, then correction of every error against the marking scheme. A few subject-specific notes follow. Each has a full guide of its own: Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology.
- Physics: numericals, done with full written steps, plus the standard derivations and ray and circuit diagrams. Speed matters less than a clean chain of formula, substitution, unit and answer.
- Chemistry: physical numericals (solutions, electrochemistry, kinetics), named reactions with reagents and conditions written out, and the exceptions in d- and f-block and coordination chemistry.
- Maths: calculus, vectors and 3D geometry, written the way a marker wants to see steps. Do a couple of matrices and probability sets weekly so they do not decay.
- Biology: NCERT first, sentence by sentence, then diagrams, then case-based questions. Skimming another guidebook at this stage costs more than it earns.
Weeks 6-8: Full Board-Pattern Mocks and Exam Strategy
From week 6 the plan changes character. Practice moves from chapters to papers, and each paper is treated as a rehearsal with a debrief. Sit a full-length paper in one subject every alternate day, in the same time slot your real paper will fall in once the date sheet is released. Review it the same evening or the next morning, and write a short list of what you would do differently: a question you attempted too early, a section you rushed, an answer where the working was correct and the presentation cost you.

Fewer mocks with proper feedback beat many papers ticked off a list. The last five or six days before each real paper should have no new material at all, only your formula, reaction and diagram sheets and one short timed set.
Boards and JEE/NEET: Where They Overlap and Where They Do Not
Most PCM and PCB students carry two exams at once, and honest advice is that the syllabus overlap is large but the skills do not fully transfer. Deep concept work helps both. But a JEE or NEET student who spends months on objective questions can lose the habit of writing a full, marked solution, and a board paper rewards that habit. Do Not Forget the Practical and Internal Marks
Thirty marks per science subject sit outside the theory paper, and twenty in Maths. These are the most reliable marks in the exam if you prepare them and the easiest to fumble if you do not: an incomplete practical file, an unprepared viva, an investigatory project you cannot explain. Put a fixed weekly slot for the practical file and viva in your calendar from week 1. Check your school's internal schedule, because practical dates are set at the school level and often fall before the theory papers begin.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Starting with new coaching material in week 1. The first fortnight is diagnosis. Adding a fresh set of books before you know what is broken only adds another pile.
- Reading instead of writing. Boards are written exams. Practice that does not include writing full answers is not board practice.
- Grading mocks generously. Give yourself no marks for an answer that was almost right. Examiners will not.
- Skipping the weak-chapter decision. Refusing to trade off means spreading time thinly and improving nothing.
- Leaving the practical file to the last week. A rushed record and a blank viva cost marks that were nearly free.
- Cramming in the last 48 hours. Sleep and one calm revision pass are worth more than another panicked chapter.
